Celebrating 10 Years of Sierra Miles

Ten years ago, Sierra Miles was just an idea—one that started around a coffee table, with a couple of laptops, a lot of passion, and a shared vision for better IT support in Northern Nevada.

Today, we’re a nine-person team with a dedicated office on South McCarran Boulevard, serving healthcare providers, law firms, and small-to-midsize businesses across the region with cutting-edge managed IT services. As we reflect on the past decade, we wanted to take a moment to honor how far we've come—where it all started, and where we are now.

Then: A Leap of Faith

Back in 2014, Tim Miles and Brandon App were seasoned IT consultants, working independently and helping local clients on a break/fix basis—solving problems as they popped up. But they saw an opportunity to do things differently. They envisioned a company that would go beyond reactive fixes to offer proactive solutions that prevented issues before they even started.

“There’s always uncertainty in starting a business,” Tim shared on our recent podcast. “But the drive to build something meaningful and the support we had made it possible.”

From humble beginnings at home (literally—the couch served as the first office), Sierra Miles quickly started building vendor relationships and offering more robust solutions to their early clients. They brought on Julie Cramden, who started with zero tech experience but quickly became a critical player in the company’s transformation and growth.

Now: A Full-Fledged Managed Services Provider

Fast forward to today, and Sierra Miles has grown into a thriving IT company with a managed services model at its core. What’s changed? A lot—but our commitment to exceptional service hasn’t.

  • From 3 to 9 Team Members: We’ve built a diverse, specialized team of IT professionals, including a compliance officer, security specialists, help desk pros, and consultants with deep experience in healthcare IT, law, retail, and more.
  • From Break/Fix to Proactive IT: Our managed services approach allows us to anticipate problems before they happen, offer continuous cybersecurity protection, handle compliance like HIPAA and PCI, and give our clients peace of mind.
  • From the Couch to South McCarran: After several office upgrades over the years, we’ve now settled into a spacious headquarters with room to grow—and we plan to!

The Power of a Team

One of the most powerful changes over the years has been moving from a two-person operation to a true collaborative team. As Brandon noted, “Working with a managed service provider gives clients a group of people and a group of knowledge—not just one person trying to wear every hat.”

We now support a wide range of clients, from small businesses with five users to medium-sized businesses with complex compliance needs. Our services have expanded to include:

“We’ve definitely gotten great feedback on how we communicate and how accessible we are,” Julie said. “And that’s something we never want to lose—no matter how big we get.”

As we celebrate 10 years, we’re proud of where we’ve been—and even more excited about what’s next. Technology continues to evolve, and so will we, always with the goal of serving our clients better, smarter, and more securely.
